Making Evil Podcast - Episode 2

Nils-Petter Norlin and Nick Marino (that's me!) talk about the creation process behind Chapters 4-6 of The Evil Life webcomic, detailing Hester Herman's monstrous marmot transformation and Prince Gloom's astral plane rendezvous with his parents.

The first 46 minutes of our episode are all about writing and drawing these chapters of The Evil Life, which included some of the earliest scripts and sketches from our collaboration. As we near the end of that conversation, we broach the topic of endings and specifically sticking the landing with a good ending (mostly cuz we're currently hard at work on the end of our top secret graphic novel about underwater koalas). After the end theme at around 46:30, we go on a Star Wars tangent and debate the most recent trilogy as we speculate on the franchise's ability to stick their own landing.

You can follow The Evil Life webcomic here on this site or over on Webtoon. The chapters covered in this conversation include 4: Feeling Fine, 5: Astral Pain, and 6: Side Effects, and our seventh chapter will be out next week!

The Evil Life: Growing Evil, Chapter 6

While our science-loving prince is preparing for a job hunt and our baby alien is streaking through space, Hester Herman is struggling with the changes she's experienced after getting bitten by a radioactive marmot. Let's check back in on Hester and see how that's going for her!

I love the way Nils draws that radioactive marmot! It's so rad, with all of those cracks and crags. My nephew Teddy liked it too when he saw me working on this webcomic last week, so I read him Hester's chapters. And when it was time for bed later that night, he requested a "radioactive meep" bedtime story! The ultimate compliment.

That was in London, where we were visiting family for a couple of weeks. Rosie and I flew home to Cali one week ago, but then we got an email when we landed that our apartment was being fumigated! So it was a pretty unusual and unexpected time.

Fingers crossed that the next two weeks will be more chilled out! I'll see you back here in two weeks with a short but (bitter)sweet chapter about our baby alien buddy.

Lazer Bird IS GO!

The campaign for the first issue of the BUN&TEA comics anthology was funded last week on Kickstarter! That means the debut chapter of Lazer Bird will be available to you soon through Bleating Heart Press.

Thanks to Claire Napier, Steenz, and Megan Purdy for organizing this publication and managing a great campaign. I've poured a ton of weird ideas into Lazer Bird and I can't wait for you to read it.

UPDATE 04.13.2022 - Well, it's been a hell of a wait, but it seems like everyone is finally getting their copies of Bun&Tea just in time for Easter 2022.
